Pros: speed, osx, ease of use, reliability
Cons: hard drive difficult to upgrade
I bought this imac about 2 weeks ago. Before this I was strictly a winxp user. I will never buy another microsoft product. It took me about a day to pretty well understand osx. I have never used it before. But once you understand it you realize how ridiculous winxp is. I have no problems with spam, viruses, and any of that stuff. No frequent updates to deal with. Security is 1000x times better. It is much easier to set up a network. I was able to use my old printer and scanner. The imac makes also no noise.
The software is adequate. I downloaded
openoffice for free. The downside is you have to learn to use a lot of new programs. Some of the winxp programs are better. If you are a heavy gamer
forget this machine. You can't upgrade the machine easily. Especially troubling is the difficultly with upgrading the harddrive which usually will break down. But these problems are nothing
in comparison with winxp freezing up all the time and slowing down to a crawl when updating. Mac os is a unix machine where all root codes are password protected, a very difficult environment for viruses and spam. It is intrinsically better.
Pros: Size fits a small room, it comes with all the basic software to get started
Cons: does not support full syncing with smartphones
After my iBook I decided to get an iMac. I priced out a Dell, HP, and Gateway, feature for feature and for the money it doesn't get any better than this. Plus I am running Windows XP, so it's like getting 2 computers in one. I highly recommend the iMac to anyone looking for a computer that will work right out of the box, and has all the basic software you need. For the tech savvy, there's XCode, Perl, Automatic Scripting, and the underlying Unix OS that can let you modify the system.
Pros: Nice display, built in webcam, all-in-one design, easiness, fast processor speeds, large hard drive, perfect price
Cons: only 90 days of support without AppleCare
Features the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor with speeds ranging from 1.83GHz to 2.33GHz. The new processor delivers up to 50% more performance than the previous 20-inch iMac. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, the twin cores sharing 4MB between them. The result? Turbocharged performance, making it easier and more fun than ever to work with digital photos, movies, music, and the web.
iMac comes with iLife '06, a suite of easy-to-use applications that make the spectacular a regular part of your everyday life. Enhance, organize and share your photos via iPhoto. Make an epic starring your kid in iMovie. Turn your photo and movie creations into professional DVDs with iDVD. Create original music in GarageBand, even if you can't carry a tune. Make podcasts and blogs. Then publish them online via your .Mac account and the all-new iWeb.
There's an iSight camera built into every new iMac, so you can start a video chat (or join one) at a moment's notice. There's nothing extra to buy, nothing to attach, no cords to fumble with, no software to install or configure. Simply start up iChat AV, click your buddy's video icon and you're ready to chat with sight and sound , with up to three friends at once. Proper attire suggested.
With iMac, you've got the best seat in the house. The full-screen Front Row media experience ; with its intuitive menus, large text and brilliant graphics lets you browse the music, photos, and videos on your iMac as easily as you browse music on your iPod. And the new Apple Remote lets you do your browsing from anywhere in the room. So gather your friends and dazzle them with a slideshow of your vacation pics, a home movie or a DVD. iMac was born to entertain.
Pros: Quality Hardware, excellent software and ease of use.
Cons: I wish I had bought a Mac earlier
I've had this iMac a few months now and I have never been so happy with a computer purchase before. Everything works together like no XP machine I have ever owned. No Virus software needed either. I can let my kids surf without the constant fear of viruses. My printer plugged in and worked immediately. I also bought iWork and love Pages and Keynote. I downloaded Open Office so who needs MS? I am now looking at buying a Macbook for the days on the road. I'll never go back!
Pros: Nice display, built in webcam, all-in-one design, easiness, fast processor speeds, large hard drive, perfect price
Cons: only 90 days of support without AppleCare
This was my very first Mac, and I swear, it is the best desktop and computer I have ever used. It's also the coolest one, with it's all-in-one design, with the disc slot on the side of the display. It also has very fast processor speeds, with its new Intel Core 2 Duo, and has a large hard drive. The built in webcam makes it cheaper because with any other desktop, you would have to buy the webcam separate, and it just makes less of a hassle without wires or cords. One bad thing about it is the support; you only get 90 days of support without the AppleCare plan. But, whenever I needed help, I called up Apple, and my questions were answered immediately. This is one great machine. I'll never turn back to PCs.
Pros: Luxury
Cons: Luxury
For Gamer. Can upgrade more.
Pros: Great OS, built in webcam, Frontrow, all in a beautiful, compact design.
Cons: Lack of easy access to any hardware but the RAM, and the ports are somewhat hard to access.
Built in its elegant all-in-one case, the iMac is a fantastic computer. It comes with some great applications, including iLife, a set of easy-to-use creative apps that are a great deal of fun to use as-well. The webcam is useful for video chats as well as having fun in Photo Booth, a fun little app where you can take some wacky pics with the camera. Frontrow allows you to access your media from your computer. Within it, you can watch movies and DVDs, listen to music, and view your photos, all navigated around using Apple's remote.
Pros: I love everything about this computer
Cons: none
I had been a Windows user for 13 years and had purchased a total of 7 computers. My 27 year old son had a Mac notebook and then upgraded to the new iMac. I decided I was finally FED UP WITH "MICROCRAP" and bought an iMac too. Finally, a fun and easy computer to use. No crashing, no conflicts and everything is just SO much better. My 20 year old has his new iMac coming now. This computer rocks!
Pros: Ease of use, graphics, etc.
Cons: None
I've been using personal computers since the Commodore 64 came out, then switched to the DOS-PC and through all of Microsoft's Windows OS until XP. Then I saw and tested MS Vista and realized it was a cheap and mediocre imitation of Apple's OSX. I bought an iMac about a month ago and I swear I will never use another computer with Microsoft's OS. The transition was nice and easy. I my opinion this is one Apple's best moves switch from Motorola to Intel processors. Why? If you need to run software which are design for PCs, this will allow you (with the use of software like Parallel or Crossover) to install and use any Windows OS. Right now, I am working with both OSX and Windows XP without any problem until I finish the transition. The good thing about Apple's OSX, is I don't need to worry anymore about the inherent problems of PC's = viruses, spyware, installing and uninstalling programs, almost weekly updates to the OS which makes it more unreliable, etc. You get the iMac out of the box and you are ready to use it. I am currently advising everybody to make the switch...
Pros: very fast,great graphics,big memory
Cons: software
the imac has a big memory great graphics, and it is very fast working and no viruses the only problem is companys dont make much soft ware for apples computers but overall it works great!
