Until recently, any high-quality plasma TV with a screen bigger than 50 inches carried a price tag north of $10,000. So we were pleasantly shocked when we learned that Panasonic's 58 TH-58PX60U would come in at around half that. Panasonic's plasma technology has the well-deserved reputation of being among the best available, and viewing on a screen this big is simply mesmerizing. This HDTV is able to receive both analog and digital signals via over-the-air broadcasts. If you subscribe to cable or satellite TV service, be sure to request an HD-capable set-top receiver from your service provider. Then, simply connect the receiver to the TH-58PX60U using either the component video or HDMI inputs and enjoy the clarity, detail, and vivid colors of HDTV. This 58 screen also delivers the full cinematic impact of your favorite DVD movies. Panasonic's plasma panel technology raises the all-important contrast ratio to a remarkable 10,000:1. That means you'll see deeper blacks and more realistic shadow detail. Panasonic also found a way to eliminate false contouring ? a form of picture distortion that makes the transitions between different shades of the same color appear too sharp and abrupt, giving scenes an artificially layered look. The TH-58PX60U can reproduce up to 29 billion colors in total, with over 3,000 shades of gradation. From sports to Hollywood blockbusters to silly sitcoms, everything looks big, bright, and beautiful.

    Problems with Panasonic TH58PX60U

By LisaAnn  Jul 29, 2007 | 0 out of 1 found this Panasonic TH-58PX60U Television review helpful

    Pros: great when it works

Cons: A failure every 10th day of use.

After 10 days our dream tv would not turn on. Thankfully the tv has a one year warranty and within 2 days a Panasonic authorized repair person came with a full gamut of replacement circuit boards. One by one he replaced the boards until the tv finall...y worked. Then he put my old circuit boards back that did not seem to be causing the problem. Now another 10 days has elapsed and there is another problem with the tv. There are grey lines across the length of the screen. I will need to call for service again and am confident that they will fix it. But my concern is that another 10 days will pass and another circuit board will fail. I purchased my tv from costco and know that I can return it within 90 days. I have owned the tv for 22 days as of the date of this writing. I am wondering if I should return this tv, but is there a more dependable tv that I can replace this with? Read more Less
