    Olympus E1

By alan Crawley  Jan 6, 2007 | 3 out of 3 found this Olympus E-1 Digital Camera review helpful

Pros: Highest quality build and durability

    Cons: Accessories are expensive

This camera is a discontinued model, and remaining stock is available at amazing bargain prices.
Anyone who is used to a 35mm film SLR will instinctively be able to operate it. It has to be the best put-together cameras available, and is one of those pieces of equipment that instantly feels right in the hands. The "Four Thirds" format means that you are tied-into that system for any lens purchases, but it means that a lens is a dedicated item, and there are no compromises with its compatibility. Also it means that the lens is smaller and lighter than others.
It may only be 5 megapixels, but with full-frame transfer and a superior lens, picture quality is of a very high standard.
Bodies with a kit lens are very cheap, but other accessories are at their normal, quite high prices.
Expect to see a replacement soon, but for anyone satisfied with the current spec, this is the one to buy.
I have owned mine for seven months and am still being impressed by it.
For anyone still doubtful, get hold of one and press the shutter-release-the sound is one of absolute mechanical perfection!

    Olympus E-1 is still excellent

    By g.m  Aug 11, 2008

Pros: Ergonomics, easy to use, built quality

    Cons: a bit slow autofocus

Newly I upgrated to Olympus E-3 and found, that the ergonomics of E-1 is better.
Great camera, especially now you can get it for little more as 200 euro. Excellent picture quality (at ISO

    Great starter camera for non-pros

By Snowball Rex  Feb 2, 2007 | 0 out of 1 found this Olympus E-1 Digital Camera review helpful

Pros: Feels solid, intuitive, ease of use, quality

Cons: Weight, only 12 pics at any one stage, manual changes are slow

I actually loved this camera. In fact I still love it. I spent a lot of time looking for the right camera for the amount of money I had. At the time I was lucky that a newer model had come out and the price had dropped.
For anyone looking to get a semi-professional camera and feeling like you have a professional camera without spending professional prices this is the camera for you.
Small things like changing any manual settings can be slow some times but you easily get used to it and your fine. Others include the weight but the reality that any camera with a prism is going to have that problem, I mean you were looking for a professional or semi professional camera. That comes with the territory
I loved the lens, it can do macro and extremely well actually. I got some great shots.

The build quality is superb. Everything feels solid. The door for the memory feels like a door, same for the usb and so on. Other small touches like that are also great.

I finally have to say that this is a camera that is well worth taking a serious look at if your interested in photography but not a professional or don't have a huge budget. Hope you enjoy

    The Olympus E-1

    By TRH  Apr 25, 2007

Pros: Build quality, ease of use, Zuiko lenses

Cons: Noise at high ISO settings, but can be cleaned up in post processing ( I use NeatImage)

Early in 2006, Cameta Camera began selling E-1's at fire-sale prices on Ebay. I had just bought an E300 (which I still have)...but when I found I could get an E-1 body for under $500, I jumped at it and have not had a single regret. The E300 sits in my camera bag most of the time.

The E-1 coupled with the excellent Zuiko 14-54 is an unbeatable combination for a wide range of photographic situations. Both the body and this lens are "splashproof".

Being a photo hobbiest rather than a working pro, I could never afford nor justify a pro dSLR of the E-1's build quality and feature set, which typically cost well over $3,000.

If you can, grab one of these. I'm glad I did!

    Olympus E-1 Not evolt E-1 !

    By Galen  Apr 21, 2007

Pros: Everthing about it is fantastic

Cons: I need more cash for lenses

This is the E-1 Not the Evolt E-1 and it is Pro Camera not a semi pro as the other rater stated.
Evolt is another class and they are the semi pro line of Olymus cameras. However they are extremly nice as well...
