Cons: The sound is terrible at any volume

You're going to read dozens of rave reviews at other sites (which, by the way, sell the speakers). Don't believe them. These speakers are simply awful. The base is thin, and muddles into an obnoxiously chesty mid-bass. Even at modest, sitting-at-the...-keyboard volume, these speakers are terrible. When you try to crank them to room-filling volume, they're even worse. Their touted active circuitry begins to really work its mischief, adding a maddening pumping and surging effect that renders the music all but unlistenable. (This effect was most distressing running the speakers against a Linux ALSA sound system, but it was also plenty noticeable on the Window$ side of the aisle. The best sound I have gotten out of these things is roughly equivalent to a $100 boom box. I paid $99 for these pieces of junk. My daughter paid $50 for a pair of no-name two-ways at Fry's in San Jose that simply humiliate these speakers. The people who designed these speakers, along with those who got them to market, should be shot. Read more Less
