This TV has an SXRD technology which is a new display technology developed by the legendary television engineers at Sony to meet and exceed the demands of a High Definition image at its full 1080 line resolution. Digitally transmitted High Definition signals can contain over 2 million individual detail points that need to be displayed accurately and rapidly. SXRD displays those 2 million detail points per SXRD panel accurately since the 3 SXRD panels actually contain enough pixels to fully display a 1080 line picture without interlacing it.

Amazing! Simply THE BEST PICTURE YOU WILL FIND

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 5, 2006 | 12 out of 12 found this Sony SXRD Grand Wega KDS-R50XBR1 Television review helpful

Pros: Incredible picture, 2 HDMI, Plenty of Inputs

    Cons: None found

When we buy TV's we look for quality, warranty etc. But of course, the main objective these days is to find the best picture quality. I have found it! After two months of research on line and in stores, I found this TV completely blows away any and e...very other TV. The HD picture is incredible, bright, crisp and there is none better on the market today. I compared it side by side in stores with Plasma, LCD and DLP. Plasma came close, but the shadows and darker images were not nearly as good. The darks, blacks and shadows with this TV are perfect. DLP were too dark. I have read reviews that fault poor speakers. Well, do any of these TV's have great speakers? NO! Thats why they all have inputs to add surround sound. The speakers, by the way, are not bad. They are good actually. Just don't expect theater sound form any TV. I added a Sony HDMI 1080i converting DVD player($149)and the DVD playback is awesome. I suggest you buy one if you purchase this set. There is a HUGE difference. Also, go for the HDMI cables too. Yes, they cost $100 each, but the picture quality as well as the auto configuration is well worth it. I have an HDMI cable to the cable box and one to the DVD. Another thing;if you use a cable or similar converter box, DO NOT let the cable box convert the signal. Let the signal pass-through the box. The TV does a noticeably superior job of coverting the signal. The HD channels look so amazing, that I find my self looking for nature shows on PBS just to view HD at it's best(yes, I will get a life soon). Sporting events too, are incredible. As is anything in High Def. One final suggestion: Shop around for price. I almost bought it from Circuit City for $3499. But 5 miles down the road I found it for $2599 at PC Richard in NY. he Sony stand was $150 cheaper too. If you have a digital camera that uses memory stick, you can insert the stick directly into the tv. It has a nice little program that lets you view the pictures right on the TV. If you have a firewire camcorder, you can plug that directly into the TV too. It is auto detected by the TV. A neat little program lets you watch movies with options to FF, REW, Pause etc., right from the remote. Also, you can choose to record to an external device. Both the memory stick slot and the fire wire port are located in the front of the TV for easy access. If your kids have an Xbox 360(as mine do)there is a huge visual advantage with this TV. Just go to the xbox settings and change the output to 1080i. Your kids will love it! Try it and you will see. Full screen and awsome graphics! Finally, if you have a comptuer nearby or a laptop to place near it, you can plug in it's DVI port and use the TV as a huge monitor. I tried it with my laptop and it works. Read more Less

    Pros: Great picture!

    Cons: A little pricey

I love this TV. I debated on plasma, LCD, & projection. The Sony KDSR50XBR1 has the best picture by far.

    Sony KDS-R50XBR1

While we did not review the Sony KDS-R50XBR1, we did review the larger, 60-inch version, model KDS-R60XBR1. The two are identical but for screen size, and the performance of the KDS-R50XBR1 should be very similar to that of the larger version. For more information, please refer to the full review of the KDS-R60BXR1. For further details on other Sony televisions, see our coverage of Sony's 2005 rear-projection HDTV lineup. Read more
